Modern Slavery Statement
This statement is made on behalf of DEX Construction Group Limited, a UK subsidiary of FEC Development Management Ltd ("FEC"), pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Our Organisation
DEX Construction Group Limited is registered in England and Wales under company number 11108356. DEX forms part of the wider FEC group of companies, which is a leading hotel operator (Dorsett Hotels) and property developer across the UK, specialising in residential and hotel developments.
Our Supply Chain
Our construction supply chains include design and engineering consultants, construction contractors, suppliers of furniture, fixtures and equipment, building maintenance and service contractors, professional service providers such as lawyers and accountants, IT service providers, marketing and design agencies, and recruitment agencies.
High-Risk Areas
We believe the following areas carry the greatest risk of exposure to modern slavery and human trafficking: direct-hire employees, contractors, subcontractor operatives, agency workers, and the wider supply chain workforce.
We take the following steps to mitigate these risks:
Employees: We verify that all employees have the right to work in the UK prior to commencing employment, and ensure all staff are informed of their working hours, leave entitlements and employment benefits.
Contractors and subcontractors: We require contractors and subcontractors to ensure their employees have the right to work in the UK. We consider their approach to employee rights during our selection process and require confirmation of compliance with Modern Slavery legislation annually through our supplier management process.
Agency workers: We use only reputable employment agencies to source labour and verify the practices of any new agency before accepting workers from them.
Suppliers: The majority of our directly sourced materials are procured from UK-based organisations subject to UK laws on forced labour.
Responsibility
Policies are the responsibility of our Human Resources department. Due diligence on existing and future suppliers is managed by our procurement department, which requires suppliers to evidence compliance with relevant legislation. Where instances of suspected slavery or human trafficking arise in our supply chain, our Legal and Procurement departments lead any required investigation. Where matters are internal, HR leads, involving Legal as needed.
Our Policies
We operate the following policies in support of our commitment to preventing modern slavery:
Whistleblowing policy, which enables employees, customers and business partners to report concerns confidentially and without fear of retaliation
Business Code of Conduct, which sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all employees
Recruitment Policy, which sets out our obligations for right to work checks and mitigating risks of slavery and human trafficking
Due Diligence
We undertake due diligence when taking on new suppliers and regularly review existing suppliers. This includes evaluating modern slavery risks of each new supplier, reviewing supply chain practices on a regular basis, supporting substandard suppliers to improve through guidance and action plans, and terminating relationships with suppliers who seriously violate our supplier code of conduct.
Training
On joining DEX, all permanent and fixed-term employees are made aware of our Business Code of Conduct and Whistleblowing policies. We are committed to providing further guidance and training on modern slavery and human trafficking to raise awareness across our workforce.
Our Commitment
We will continue to raise awareness of modern slavery among our employees, engage with our supply chain, and monitor and evaluate supplier performance against our standards.
